The Library at ESSMY endeavors to support and assist students and staff in their pursuit of life-long learning. Our program provides guidance in the research process; to provide and maintain a collection of materials designed to complement and enrich the school curriculum and to make available and provide a facility conducive to research, study, homework and reading.

Library Services

  • ESSMY School Library is open from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  • Individuals and small groups of students are welcome at any time for quiet research, study or computer usage.
  • Full classes are booked in advance into the library by teachers.
  • If students need any help in their research or reading they are encouraged to ask for assistance. The librarian is always available for consultation.
  • ESSMY's library collection includes paperback fiction in both French and English as well as a non-fiction and reference section in both languages.
  • An online catalogue with three computer terminals listing all books by author, title and subject, is available for easier location of materials.
  • A total of six computers with internet access are available.
  • In the library we try to promote an awareness of cooperation, courtesy and respect for other students' study, reading and research needs by maintaining a quiet work atmosphere.
  • Eating and drinking in the library is not permitted.
  • Students may take out up to a total of three items - 2 French and 1 English for a period of two weeks, no overdue fines are charged; however, students are expected to return books on time.
  • Reference material may not be removed from the library.
  • Lost or damaged items must be paid for at the replacement cost.
  • All classroom textbook are inventoried and signed out through the library. All lost and found textbooks should be reported to the library
  • Sleeping in the library is not allowed.
  • Music may be played in the library by students using their own CD players, walkmans with headsets as long as it does not disturb other patrons.
Library Group Use Policy

The library is shared facility within our school. Groups that use it, must recognize that their cooperation is vital in maintaining this great resource. The following policy is in place:

  • If food or drinks are taken in the library, please pick up dirty cups and leftover food, wipe tables and place all refuse in garbage containers
  • Make sure chairs and tables are replaced as they were found
  • Tables or chairs borrowed from the library, need to be return when you are finished with them
  • Return all A.V. equipment to storage room
  • Return any other equipment borrowed to its' proper storage area
